The team at LiVAULT are delighted to see the first RAMBSS module successfully installed and operating onboard.
RAMBSS modules represent the most advanced solution available for the safe charging and storage of lithium-ion batteries at sea.
Testing has been successfully completed at the Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE) in accordance with UL9540A and UL 1487, under the witness of Lloyd’s Register, who are currently finalising the Type Approval certification process.
RAMBSS modules meet and exceed the requirements of MGN 681 (M) Amendment 1 as an approved dedicated charging cabinet and incorporate a comprehensive range of safety features, including:
- Certification according to the international standard UL 1487 for battery systems, rated up to 5.25 kWh.
- Advanced thermal runaway detection that activates visual and audible alarms while simultaneously interfacing with the vessel’s alarm and monitoring systems.
- Integrated battery charging with intelligent thermal management, providing visual and audible warnings and automatically shutting down charging in the event of elevated temperatures or smoke detection.
- A multi-nozzle suppression system that floods the module with a proprietary freshwater and cooling-agent solution, submerging the battery, cooling off-gases, and reducing structural temperatures.
- Robust double-walled construction combining non-combustible materials with ballistic-rated protection.
- A multi-material Exo-Filter system designed to absorb and neutralise hazardous gases and vapours, including hydrogen (H₂), hydrogen fluoride (HF), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
- Active ventilation that maintains a controlled internal temperature during charging while safely extracting and filtering gases in a thermal runaway event.
- Explosion-resistant engineering, with testing demonstrating the ability to withstand internal pressure peaks of up to 7.2 bar without structural failure.
- An internal backup battery that maintains monitoring, alarm, and suppression functionality in the event of power loss onboard, up to 90 days.
- An integrated display providing real-time monitoring of internal temperatures, system status, and active alerts.
RAMBSS Modules deliver an unparalleled level of protection against the risks associated with lithium-ion battery charging and storage, providing vessel owners, operators, and crew with confidence that their batteries are protected by the most comprehensive marine safety solution available.
